UConn’s Vukosa breaks records at FIBA U18 tourney

Incoming UConn freshman Olivia Vukosa earned some major honors for her record-breaking performance during the FIBA U18 EuroBasket this summer.

The new Husky, who competes internationally for Croatia, was named one of the tournament’s All-Star Five after leading all players with 24.9 points and 14.3 rebounds per game. Those averages rank fourth and second all-time in U18 EuroBasket history.

Vukosa carried Croatia with a tournament-record 46 points in the team’s loss to Czechia on Saturday in Stockholm, Sweden. Croatia finished 1-6 at the tournament and in 12th place out of 16 teams.

Though she grew up in Whitestone, N.Y. and starred at Christ the King High School, Vukosa has dual citizenship in Croatia, as her grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from there. She has played internationally for the country since 2023.

The 6-5 center was ESPN’s No. 2-ranked recruit in the Class of 2026 and was named the Gatorade National Girls Basketball Player of the Year. She hopes to make a major impact when she hits the court for the Huskies this season.
