The European Athletics Championships get underway on Monday, and hopes are high that Ireland could at least match the brilliant four medals they claimed in Rome in 2024.

Kate O’Connor, Sarah Healy, Rhasidat Adeleke, and Cian McPhillips are just a few of the names who will hope to return home from Birmingham with silverware.

We’ve compiled a complete timetable of every race with Irish involvement throughout the week. Note that the European Athletics Championships will be broadcast live on RTÉ 2.

We’ll keep this list updated as the week goes on, as the various final and semi-final spots are confirmed.

All events listed in italics are finals, for which Irish participation depends on results in earlier rounds.

Tuesday 19:25 – 5,00m Final – Sarah Healy

A gold-medalist over 3,000m at last year’s European Indoor Championships, Sarah Healy has a tremendous chance at adding an outdoor medal to her collection this week.

Healy boasts the 6th-fastest time over 5,000m in Europe this year, and could kickstart Ireland’s medal charge on Tuesday night.

Wednesday evening – Hammer Throw Finals – Nicola Tuthill

Nicola Tuthill is in action on day one in the qualifying rounds of the hammer throw and, should she progress from there, Wednesday’s final marks Ireland’s first big shot at a field medal.

A European U23 and University Games silver-medalist, Tuthill should be right in the mix for a medal.

Thursday 21:20 – 800m Final – Cian McPhillips / Mark English

Cian McPhillips was the surprise package of last year’s World Athletics Championships, setting a new national record in claiming a sensational 4th-placed finish over 800m. Alongside the experience of Mark English, the chances of an Irish medal here feel very high.

Thursday 21:50 – 200m Final – Rhasidat Adeleke

It’s been a difficult 24 months for Rhasidat Adeleke since Paris 2024, marked by injury struggles, but she burst back onto the scene with an electric national gold over 200m last month.

A two-time European medalist, hopes will be high that Adeleke adds to that tally this week.

Friday – Heptathlon – Kate O’Connor

Ireland’s leading contender for a medal at these games. Kate O’Connor has a European indoor bronze, World Outdoor silver, and a World Indoor silver to her name after a stellar 2025, and can now boast her first senior gold after triumph at the Commonwealth Games earlier this summer.

The heptathlon gets underway on Friday afternoon, with events across the day.

Saturday – Heptathlon 800m – Kate O’Connor

Where it will all be decided. If Kate O’Connor is in the mix when the 800m gets underway, expect a first-ever European Outdoor medal to come her way.

Sunday 19.45 – 1500m final – Sarah Healy

Sarah Healy will also compete in the 1500m and both she and Sophie O’Sullivan will hopefully both feature in Sunday’s final.
