😅
This is why we can’t have nice things.
It sometimes baffles me that its little wheels still find the grip while taking very tight corners at high speed, untill they don’t that is
Well obviously there are a lot of injuries if these steps don´t have brakes, du´h
Krijgt de politie ook e-scooters om de achtervolging in te zetten wanneer iemand op het voetpad rijdt en niet van plan is om te stoppen?
This is the best news I’ve seen all day.
Just saw an article that a 5 year old kid from Ukraine no less was killed in France after a 40 year old was driving at high speed on the sidewalk on an e-step. Absolutely devastating and incredibly annoying to read something like that
>While convenient, e-scooters can also be dangerous. Last year, police registered 533 accidents that led to injury with e-scooters involved in Flanders — more than double the number seen the year before (206).
That’s a lot. Not that it’s surprising to see the numbers rise, but wow. That’s still a lot.
And considering most of these injuries are head-related (as the source article mentions), regulation is indeed necessary.
Crashed my e-scooter wearing only normak clothes, got 3 weeks worth of pain meds and my palms being degloved from a stupid fall on one of these things. Havent touched it since
It’s crazy to me that the Brussels administration has been so quick to react to the problems of electric scooters, meanwhile our entire city is built around cars which are way deadlier, louder, pollute much more and take more space, but it’s seen as completely normal. Electric scooters are a minor annoyance in comparison.
sad, yet again darwin’s theory is stopped from doing its work ='(
I know several doctors that have complained about face injuries from people face planting with e-scooters skyrocketing. They’re seeing people like every week.
I also know a guy that used to ride one of those electric skateboards that you power via a handheld remote. I think it went up to like 30-40km/h at top speed. When he first showed it to me I asked him if he’d ever heard of the law of conservation of momentum. He told me it’s no big deal and the thing had brakes. I asked him about it recently, apparently he doesn’t ride that skateboard anymore. I wonder what might have happened…
E steps can break harder than a normal bike.
I really don’t get the problem.
This is like saying that cars should be banned because some people drink and drive
E-steps should not go that fast to start with, anyone with a bit of logic looking at these things knows that 25 km/h is to fast.
Last week in Tournai, I have saved an e-scooter driver, he fell from it, he had a broken bone (very bad one, it was out of his leg), he was in a hurry to pick-up his daughter at school… The street walk was safe, no pothole, he just crashed surely due to speed…
Injuries aside.
I got more grievance with E-scooter share like (Lime-scooter) being left behind in random places right in the middle of the sidewalk, or parkingspots in the street.
I last found an e-scooter just a few inches from the front of my car parked next to the pavement in the city. I have a pretty high front vehicle. If I hadn’t noticed it, I probably would ran over it damaging my car.
parking the scooter in front of a house probably offends the house owners. but if its your house? why not let it stand next to the outside wall waiting for the next public share? why leave it next to the cars? jeez.
Just put it next the the public bikeracks people. they don’t bother anyone there.
