Fine is higher than a lot of traffic fines. Mininum fine for drunk driving is 179 Euro.

This is sad. Everybody needs to pay for the few people who abuse their freedom. It’s like forbidding cars because some people drive recklessly. You can apply this pervert reasoning to everything: forbid going to parks because some people break a tree; forbid parties because some get out of hand; forbid knives because some are used for assaults…
Moreover, there are already laws in place for people who cause problems when drunk. I’m not a fan of fining for ‘drunk in public’ but it exists for such abuse, also vomiting/polluting the street, making too much noise at night, harassing people… is already forbidden. But of course, then you need to pass through a judge (although ‘administrative detentions’ with 1 night in jail are already used too leisurely without judges intervening). This is just a demonstration of an incompetence to properly implement the law – in the spirit of the law – and of bypassing a democratic separation of powers. Really sad and worrying that this isn’t the first time (e.g. drinking alcohol in public is already forbidden in several neighbourhoods in Brussels for the same BS reasons).
So basically if I got to the nightshop to buy a few beers to drink at home, they can fine me on the way back?
I would have no problem with higher fines for people who litter, urinate or cause other problems while being drunk (or not), but this is just insane. The ease in which they can implement such a drastic measure is getting frightening
