Not long ago the political fortunes of Naftali Bennett – the former settler leader and, briefly, Israel’s prime minister – were on the rise. In late April, he and Yair Lapid, leader of the centrist Yesh Atid party, announced to great fanfare that they would be joining forces. A few weeks later, in front of an audience of thousands in Tel Aviv, they unveiled their new party, which they named “Together,” and vowed that they would lead the formation of the next government.
