Czech Republic backs efforts to de-escalate regional tensions

  • 2026-08-13

PRAGUE: Czech First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlicek affirmed his country’s support for international efforts to halt escalation and strengthen security and stability in the region, while ensuring the security of energy supplies and the smooth flow of international trade.

The Kuwait Embassy in the Czech Republic said in a statement received by KUNA on Wednesday that Havlicek made the remarks during a meeting with Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Czech Republic Talal Al-Shatti. The meeting focused on ways to strengthen economic and investment cooperation and develop the joint strategic economic partnership between the two friendly countries. Havlicek also expressed the Czech government’s solidarity with Kuwait over the Iranian attacks and condemned the attacks targeting vital sites in Kuwait.

Meanwhile, Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tareq and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa discussed Tuesday regional and international developments and issues of common interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening security and stability in the region. According to Oman News Agency (ONA), the discussions took place during a telephone call received by Sultan Haitham from King Hamad. The two leaders exchanged views on efforts to enhance regional security and stability and reaffirmed the deep-rooted fraternal ties between Oman and Bahrain and their peoples.

In a related development, Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr Abdullatif Al-Zayani held separate telephone talks with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty. During his call with Dar, the two ministers discussed regional and international efforts to de-escalate tensions and promote security and stability.

They reviewed the latest regional developments, including efforts to ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. The Bahraini Foreign Ministry said the two sides also discussed bilateral cooperation, particularly in light of Bahrain and Pakistan’s non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council. Al-Zayani and Dar also reviewed the close fraternal ties between Bahrain and Pakistan and ways to expand cooperation across various fields.

During his separate call with Abdelatty, Al-Zayani discussed efforts to safeguard regional security and stability and reviewed developments concerning the protection of maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab Al-Mandab. The two ministers exchanged views on regional challenges and de-escalation efforts, while also discussing the longstanding fraternal relations between Bahrain and Egypt and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation at all levels in pursuit of shared interests and objectives. — KUNA
