Removed to accommodate the new fangled automobile no doubt.
Good man Todd Andrews.
I could understand the service stopping due to costs etc. but why was all infrastructure removed. Surely leaving the tracks in place for possible future use was an option?
I’m not a civil engineer so I’m guessing there are obvious reasons I’m just not aware of??
I love the forgotten neighbourhoods on these old maps. It’s funny which ones survived.
Roebuck survives in the castle, UCD, etc, Priesthouses I’ve never heard of, Pembroke is now really Ballsbridge, etc.
Say what you want about the brits but they seemed to leave us with good transport infrastructure.
Though infaireness for a new fledgling state it couldn’t have been easy keeping it up, especially after two wars.
It’s sad there armed more trams around the city centre. But the bus network (not it’s reliability mind) os quite good for the city.
The issue is cars. Too many cars in the city centre.
The M50 should be free. And it should be 5€ to drive through the city.
looks like a facehugger from alien.
I bet I would get home quicker in 1922 public transport Dublin than today.
Neat.
I just love this. Interestingly, Raheny is as far from the city centre as Templeogue. I can’t get my head around that.
Mad that they had a better transport system in Dublin 100 years ago than they have today. You should post this on r/mapporn as well. If you haven’t heard of it check it out.
But sure the demand just isn’t there, people have cars

[Bus Connects Big Picture map i.e. what we’re moving towards over the next couple years](https://busconnects.ie/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/big-picture-map-170920-oe-web.pdf), for comparison.
