The Finnish government will provide €28.5 million to purchase new power-generation equipment for Ukrainian energy company Ukrnafta as part of a €46.5 million infrastructure project.
Finland will cover the majority of the total cost, while Ukraine will self-finance the remaining amount, according to a press release by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland on August 13, United24media reported.
The power equipment will be manufactured in Vaasa, Finland, by Wärtsilä Finland Oy. Ukrnafta is procuring the facilities to maintain stable energy production, which remains critical for the country’s infrastructure amid Russian attacks following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“Finland has world-class expertise in the energy sector, which can benefit Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts. I am glad that Finnish technology and Finnish workers play a role in strengthening Ukraine’s energy security. At the same time, this project supports Finnish exports and employment,” emphasized Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Tavio.
Funding for the initiative is provided through the Finland-Ukraine Investment Fund (FUIF), which focuses on supporting public investments in Ukraine utilizing Finnish technologies and professional services.
