Lafayette has announced it will establish a Technology and Privacy Advisory Committee.
The committee will be in charge of reviewing the city’s use of technology and related policies. Its goal will be to foster transparency, accountability, privacy and protection of residents’ constitutional rights, according to a news release.
Lafayette City Council members Steve Snyder, Lauren Ahlersmeyer and Perry Brown, City Clerk Cindy Murray and Board of Works Member/LPD Civil Service Commission Member Eric Rody will make up the committee. They will be assisted by Lafayette City Attorney Jacque Chosnek and Information Technology Department Director Andy Milam.
The committee will also work with other appropriate city departments.
The city specified the committee’s review will focus on a variety of areas, including but not limited to, “how public safety and other technology is being used by the city and its departments; opportunities to improve transparency and public understanding regarding the technology; how the city should evaluate and oversee new technologies before or as they are implemented.”
