The constant increases in petrol, diesel, oil, gas and electric just feel like they’re never going to stop.
It’s really disheartening
Winter is going to be so tough on so many.
Got a fairly reasonable one in the €100s this time, after a fucking disastrous €476.
It’s certainly going to be a tough few years. And hikes in interest rates will make it harder and harder to borrow/spend our way through it. No easy solutions here.
>It had previously increased electricity bills by 23.4% in March and gas bills by 24.8%.
Only raised in March and is being hiked again considerably? Surely there has to something stopping them from doing this? It’ll only go up again before next quarter
Got to protect them profits
This is just a taster, Putin will really put the boot in come winter time.
It’s OK, the government will throw us 200 euro credit and that will solve everything /s
What happens then if the gas and electricity supply situation improves in a few years, are prices going to be quick enough to come down 50% or so
Can’t cope, I pay all the bills alone and can barely keep up. Scared of falling behind because if I do I’ll never catch up
They are raking in record profits, they can easily afford not to do this.
We pay the 4th highest price for electricity in Europe.
Are they also raising the amount they pay for feed in from customers with solar?
The ESB made €679 million in profits in 2021, the Cabinet has been told – up 10 per cent on a record profit in 2020.
The huge margin was revealed a month after the Tánaiste told the Dáil that the Government could restrain the ESB from making “hyper profits” – and might use an excess to reduce electricity costs for ordinary people.
Let’s see… The parent company of Electric Ireland is ESB. ESB recorded an after tax profit of €266 million last year. The state has a 95% stake in ESB, and ESB paid about half of the post-tax profit (€126 million) as a dividend to the exchequer. So, can I consider any price above cost to be yet another hidden tax for me? If everything from the next price increase goes to the state dividend, that will be another €240 annual tax increase for me.
I never know that to do with these stories do I upvote it to highlight it or does that appear I’m in favour of those increases.
My monthly electricity bill is between €130-€150 a month so that’s awesome
Thank God for the back boiler and the stove. Can see gas bills of 6 to 8 hundred quid for people this winter if Putin puts the boot in.
Worse would be rationing so even if you can pay there isnt any available.
All the dickheads that were runnin round in PCP bmws the last few years saying “the hill is for sheep” are now looking for turf banks. They can fvck right off. I’ll fight any man that even looks at my turf.
Aw class!
Anyone know if there is an energy department where you can borrow energy meters to use to measure the power usage from individual poweroutlets? Back in Denmark we could do that, instead of buying them and get an idea of what might be using lot of power in a week and make adjustments. Is there anything like that here in Ireland?
The priority must be price stabilisation.

They’re going to have to consider some sort of a windfall tax or short term price cap to limit these price increases for a while, the problem is these prices will hit the lower end harder. It’s either that or the goverment bites the bullet and raises the taxes on corporations to plug the gap.
Either way something has got to give or something needs to be done on the EU level to solve this. Putin is the main culprit of this shit with his delusional shenanigans but there’s going to be problems across the board if prices keep increasing too quickly.
It’s basically like a Sacha baron Cohen interview now where they’re just pushing and pushing to see if people push back. The worst thing is people will still make pathetic excuses like “it’s Russia’s fault” or “at least I don’t live in China” or some such bollocks.
