Emergency services in the Czech Republic have brought a forest fire in the South Bohemian district of Strakonice under control, a spokesman said on Friday.
The fire near the village of Lnáře was no longer spreading, the spokesman said. Drones equipped with thermal imaging cameras were being used to locate and extinguish any hidden concentrations of embers.
Lnáře lies around 70 kilometres east of the German border.
The operation was complicated due to inaccessible terrain and high temperatures, the spokesman said. Firefighters faced an acute risk of overheating in their protective suits during the demanding work.
Professional fire brigades from Blatná, Pisek, Strakonice and České Budějovice were involved in fighting the blaze, as well as numerous volunteer fire brigades.
Investigations into the cause of the forest fire were ongoing. One possibility being considered was sparks from the cultivation of a field, Czech public television reported from the scene.
The damage ran into the hundreds of thousands of euros, according to the reporting. The state meteorological service CHMU has identified the current year as one of the driest in the Czech Republic since modern measurements began in 1961.
