Only one new name joined the medal table here on Day 5 of the 2026 European Championships, and it was Lithuania: Tomas Navikonis won silver in the 200 free behind Romania’s David Popovici to give his nation their first of the meet.
The big winner was Neutral Athletes B, who claimed two golds, a silver, and two bronze. Both golds also came with a new championship record, as Evgeniia Chikunova took the win in the 200 breast with a time of 2:19.32 and NAB won the 400 mixed free relay in 3:19.95. Kliment Kolesnikov‘s 24.12 and Pavel Samusenko‘s 24.14 helped the pair go 2-3 in the 50 back, and Daria Klepikova notched on another medal thanks to her bronze medal performance in the 100 fly.
Great Britain maintained their lead of the medal table, as despite not taking home any golds, the Brits did collect two minor medals thanks to James Guy‘s 200 free bronze and Angharad Evans‘ silver in the 200 breast.
Germany also had themselves a day, as Angelina Kohler took home silver in the 100 fly before Isabel Gose and Maya Werner won silver and bronze in the 1500 free. The only other nation that went home with more than one medal tonight was Italy; Simona Quadarella ran away with the gold and a championship record in the mile while the Italians won bronze in the mixed 400 free relay.
The Netherlands maintained their top 5 standing with a silver in that same relay, with NAB out-touching them by just 0.14 seconds.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of the night was Miroslav Knedla’s gold in the 50 back. He claimed the title by just 0.01 seconds and helped Czechia leap from 10th as of yesterday to 6th. He gives the nation their 2nd gold of the meet after Barbora Seemanova won the 200 free yesterday in a championship record time.
