With move on orders being debated in New Zealand we look abroad at how some other countries have addressed homelessness.
In 1987 there were more than 18,000 homeless people in Finland. Then in 2008, the country adopted a Housing First approach and it went all in.
By 2017 that number dropped down to 2000. It’s radical but simple. However, since those record lows the number of homeless have spiked so we sought answers on what’s worked, and what went wrong with one of the architects of Housing First in Finland, Juha Kahila – the Coordinator of the Nordic Homelessness Alliance.
