WANA (Aug 15) – The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and UAE authorities have reported an attack on a merchant vessel in the vicinity of the Strait of Hormuz late Friday.
According to a statement released by UKMTO early Saturday, the incident took place on Friday, August 14, 2026, at approximately 20:00 UTC (23:30 Tehran time) near Kumzar, Oman.
The report indicates that a bulk carrier was struck on its hull by an unidentified projectile.
UKMTO confirmed that all crew members are safe. However, damage assessments remain ongoing, and the potential environmental impact of the strike is currently unknown. The agency has advised transiting vessels to exercise extreme caution and report any suspicious activity immediately.
In a separate update early Saturday, the UAE’s state news agency WAM, citing the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), also confirmed that a vessel was targeted in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday evening.
According to UAE military officials cited in the ADNOC statement, the tanker was struck by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) while exiting the Strait of Hormuz in waters near the port town of Khasab.
