*A Ukrainian court ruling called for the reinstatement of a diplomat who was fired for making antisemitic remarks.*
*Vasyl Marushchynets, then the Ukrainian consul in Hamburg, Germany, was dismissed last year after his social media posts came to light. Writing on Facebook, he blamed Jews for World War II and called for “death to the anti-fascists.” He also posed for photographs with a cake baked in the shape of Adolf Hitler’s book “Mein Kampf.”*
what did this idiot say this time why can’t he work like other ambassadors to call us without fail?
Should German support for Ukraine ever wane, it would be in large part due to Melnyk. He is the perfect argument for anyone trying to undermine the sometimes still tentative German allegiance to Ukraine. Melly, just keep your twisted history to yourself. We need to win this war and soon!
With full support for the Ukrainian cause, an ambassador who glorifies nationalists with a past of mass murder can’t keep the job. Imagine a German ambassador who says Hitler wasn’t that bad and killed half of Europe because the continent wasn’t fair to Germans after WWI. This situation shows a bit about the distance Ukraine have yet to cover to join the EU.
Won’t understand for the life of it why Melnyk stays as ambassador. He does nothing but disservice to his cause, to a degree you’d sometimes think he is a russian asset.
Or maybe that is just the way ukrainian politicians treat themselves and we get a glimpse into their political culture?
He needs to be removed. He clearly cannot understand what to do.
Melnyk is the main reason why many germans started to get sceptical about supporting Ukraine. Don’t get me wrong, a lot of people are still supporting (and i hope it stays this way), it’s not that bad yet but you see a lot of comments on Twitter or in Television where people feel screwed over because they’re trying to help in so many ways possible and all you get is: “Ukraine refugees don’t feel safe in Germany and leave because of YOU..” and of course keeps insulting the chancellor and president.. I’m 100% sure things would be going much better if he just stops acting this way.
> Melnyk said that nationalist Stepan Bandera was “not a mass murderer.”
It will be interesting after the war in Ukraine is over, if Poland will block full EU ascension of Ukraine until they officially recognize Stepan Bandera as a mass murderer. Like Bulgaria was/is blocking NM (not for the exact same reason but similar situation).
To say clearly – If Russia in 2014 will not begin all this Bandera story no one in Ukraine even do not know who is he and his biography.
Now we need to defend him (it is really hard because he lived many years ago and there is a huge lack of real information about him and what he did, and a huge propaganda that he is bad)
But we really think here in Ukraine – we do not care who he was … we need to go in future and in future we do not want to new better heroes than Bandera
That sort of stuff is weird and quite similar to what many Russian officials were doing in the last decades – trying to whitewash the reputations of some figures of the past who definitely do not deserve it.
It backfired heavily for Russia by allowing many other former Soviet republics to shift most of the blame for Soviet atrocities on Russian people, while quite a few of the worst Soviet criminals were not even Russians, starting with Stalin himself.
I don’t see how Melnyk’s actions can be not harmful to Ukrainians in the long run and I really don’t understand why the Ukrainian government keeps him as an ambassador for such a long time. They clearly have no issue with replacing their ambassadors to other countries as they’ve demonstrated recently.

Isn’t that “diplomat” already known for his positions? Or it was another one?
Ukrainian diplomats in Germany have interesting habits:
