Taoiseach Micheál Martin says pension age should not go beyond 66

  1. More pandering to the voter base.

Absolutely should be raised, because guaranteed it will be raised by the time any of us retire.

I have no interest paying for the mistakes of the bastards that put us in this mess, let them work off their debt to the younger generations.

  2. I’m guessing he didn’t teach maths so. Unless something is done about the cost of living very few people could afford to retire. Especially anyone renting.

  3. Doesn’t matter if it goes down to 56,the payment is now so low in comparison to the cost of living many will simply never be able to retire like the US.

The falling young population also means that even if it rises to 70 we cant really afford it all, even the low amount it is now.

  4. SF have fucked us here. We had a government which finally was beginning to take some difficult but necessary decisions, and because SF decided to make an election issue out this to win older voter votes FF have reverted back to type. We’ve been told in various independent reports that 66 is not sustainable, and it’s younger people who are going to suffer the financial consequences.

  5. He along with the rest of them will start saying anything to try get voters back onside.

Typical lies and promise’s will be made and broken as sure as night follows day.

  6. The obvious answer is to not have a “retirement age” cutoff, but let people retire when they want. Retire early, get less. Retire late, get more.

  7. If you’re under 40 and think retaining/lowering the pension age is going to be good for your future, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

It was fine when we only had enough old people to fill a dance hall, people died before they turned 80, we had a pension reserve with 20 billion quid in it, and we were pumping out babies like nobody’s business. Now we have a significant number of old people who are living longer, have never contributed so much as a penny to a pension pot, and we an exchequer funded pension system with a dearth of children (future taxpayers) being born compared to 10 years ago.

Without significant changes to how the pension is funded (people actually contributing from their salaries), or we have some sort of mega baby boom – freezing the pension age is going to be a fucking disaster come 20-30 years time.

  8. We all thought he was talking about pension payments, we later found out, all too late he was actually talking about a euthanasia program he had implemented.

  9. Any chance that out elected representatives would be entitled to start collecting their pensions at 66.
