RAYVILLE, La. (KNOE) – The Rayville Civic Center was filled with hands-on experiments today as local children, parents and relatives gathered for a regional science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fair.
The event, organized by STEM Global Action, aimed to foster early curiosity and interest in such fields through active participation. Families spent the afternoon testing various science experiments, exploring foundational engineering concepts, and engaging in math games designed to make relevant topics approachable and fun for kids of all ages.
STEM Global Action was established in 2013 as a network and campaign dedicated to promoting hands-on learning. The organization focuses on exposing students in underrepresented areas to experiential learning opportunities that prepare them for future academic and professional success.
“In the 21st century, our children are only going to have one or more of three options,” said Dr. Calvin Mackie, founder of STEM Global Action. “They’re going to take something, break something or make something. We’ve got to give our children the education and skills to make something in life. So today we’re exposing our kids to science, technology, engineering and mathematics so they’ll be ready for the careers of the 21st century.”
Organizers emphasized that early exposure is key to building a strong educational foundation, with plans to expand similar interactive STEM fairs to more rural communities across the region in the coming months.
