The Buccaneer Archipelago comprises more than 800 islands off the Kimberley coast of north-western Australia. The archipelago is known for its complex coastline, strong tidal currents, rocky islands, and shallow marine environments.
This image, acquired by one of the Copernicus Sentinel-2 satellites on 31 March 2026, shows the islands and surrounding waters of the archipelago. The image highlights the contrast between the turquoise shallow waters, the darker, deeper channels, and the rugged land of the islands and nearby mainland coast.
Copernicus supports the monitoring of water quality and of coastal and marine environments, including islands, reefs, and shorelines.
