KUWAIT: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) said the “Blue Pioneer” camp offers students a comprehensive environmental and educational experience designed to familiarize them with Kuwait’s environment and its diverse components through a program combining awareness, practical learning and field activities. Speaking to KUNA Sunday on the occasion of the launch of the camp’s second edition, organized by the EPA in cooperation with the Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME), EPA Director of Public Relations and Media and official spokesperson Sheikha Al-Ibrahim said the initiative aims to raise environmental awareness and instill sustainability values among young people.
Al-Ibrahim said the camp focuses on experiential learning, allowing students to acquire knowledge and practical skills through interactive activities while developing a sense of responsibility toward the environment and the importance of conserving natural resources. She said the camp combines learning, exploration and teamwork, helping strengthen participants’ connection with their surroundings and translate environmental and sustainability concepts into practical experiences. The camp is hosting students aged 11 to 13, who will visit a number of sites and institutions across Kuwait to learn first-hand about their activities and contributions to environmental protection.

Learning beyond the classroom
Al-Ibrahim said the program includes a variety of activities and events designed to deepen environmental awareness and encourage participants to consider sustainable solutions. Among the field visits is the Scientific Center, where students will learn about marine life and biodiversity, followed by a visit to the fish market to observe different species and gain a closer understanding of marine resources.
Participants will also visit EPA laboratories, where they will take environmental samples and learn about the procedures used to analyze and test them. The program also includes a visit to the Ahmed Al-Jaber Oil and Gas Exhibition, operated by Kuwait Oil Company, where students will learn about Kuwait’s oil and gas sector and its relationship with sustainability. A visit to the Coast Guard will introduce participants to its role in protecting the marine environment and ensuring maritime safety, while a visit to Aquamarine will provide further insight into the marine environment and its inhabitants.
Building environmental awareness
Al-Ibrahim said cooperation with ROPME highlights the importance of partnership and coordination among environmental stakeholders and contributes specialized content that enriches the participants’ understanding of the marine environment, its protection and sustainability. She stressed the EPA’s commitment to expanding partnerships with government and private-sector institutions to provide high-quality environmental programs targeting children and young people. Building an environmentally conscious generation, Al-Ibrahim said, represents one of the most important investments in creating a more sustainable future. — KUNA
