> Mr Furze, from Stamford, said he wanted to do it because he thought “it would be cool”.
Thought he had died for a moment.
The guy is living many guys dreams. Who wouldn’t want a tunnel from him house to his secret underground bunker.
Colin Furze is a total lunatic in the best possible way
This man is a legend in our house. Whole family loves him, my 4 and 7 year old as much as us grown ups. Wonderful mixture of educational technical stuff with hilarious insanity. Just wonderful.
Not really news he has been at it a while. Eccentric but completely by the books.
Aside from the general entertainment value anything which gets more people interested in construction and engineering is a good thing.
> “I thought wouldn’t it be amazing if I could get to the bunker without having to walk down the path outside?” he said.
Also great for when it inevitably starts pissing it down but you want to go to your mancave.
Been watching since he built the awe inspiringly lethal jettle and the cake o matic
Going to be interesting when he comes to sell:
‘This is a three bedroom house with attached network of bunkers.’
Colin Furze is honestly a national treasure.
He’s somewhere between Tony Stark and Wallace from Wallace and Gromit.
An actual Legend of the folklore standard who will permeate through generations.
I hope he was wearing his safety tie when digging that out 👍
Quite surprised it had to be retrospectively approved. Despite the on camera chaos persona I had assumed there would be a lot of work done behind the scenes to ensure it checks out legally
At least the dude is quite skilled at manufacturing so I’m sure its fine either way
Congratulations to the BBC on catching up with the rest of the world.
Man’s clearly nuts but we all love a nutter here in Great Britain eh?
I do wonder what his wife thinks of his antics. She’s probably happy to have him out of the house.
Could be dangerous if risks are not considered. Things like poor airflow, potential collapse, no exit routes, and fire risk can make them a potential death trap.
secret tunnel
In the video he says he thought it would be easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission. Seems he was right, haha.
This guy is a reckless idiot who is going to get someone killed. The video he posted about digging an underground cave at the beach, in sand, was the sketchiest thing I’ve ever seen. If one of the sand walls collapsed, he would have been buried alive, and no one could have helped him.
One of his millions of followers is bound to try something similar with tragic results, guaranteed.
As the tunnel was already built, and this was *retrospective* planning permission, the headline should have read:
> allowed to *keep* tunnel under garden
It does have some safety consideration, if there is a fire, for the fire service to evacuate the whole property.
I think I’d have been inclined to have stairs down to it from the house, rather than the trapdoor and ladder in the cupboard that he has. He could still have a ‘secret’ entrance in his shed.
This was the guy who just dug a hole in his garden for a “bunker”, neglected anything like insulation or drainage, so now just has a freezing cold perpetually sopping damp man cave that no one actually wants to spend any time in?

How does this merit an article in the BBC?
