Russia will unveil a monument for North Korean soldiers who fought against Ukrainian forces in Kursk in the fall, Moscow’s defense chief announced Saturday at a reception marking Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule.

Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov highlighted the role of North Korean soldiers who fought “shoulder to shoulder” with Russian troops, liberated the Kursk region from Ukrainian “neo-Nazi groupings” and assisted in demining and rebuilding the region, according to footage of Belousov’s speech at the reception released by his ministry.
