The death toll from two powerful earthquakes on Venezuela’s northern coast on June 24 has reached 6,438 people.
Venezuelan parliament speaker Jorge Rodríguez confirmed another 137 deaths. The updated death toll was determined after search-and-rescue operations in destroyed residential areas and at damaged coastal facilities.
Earthquakes in Venezuela: Scale of the Destruction
The earthquakes, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, caused significant damage to infrastructure in the country’s northern regions. Thousands of families were forced to leave their homes due to the destruction.
Rescue teams, together with relatives of the victims, continue searching for people who may remain trapped beneath the rubble of buildings. At the same time, the technical condition of structures is being assessed in the affected municipalities to determine whether it is safe for residents to return to their homes.
