Thanks to hackers, we can see that the inflation has been used as an excuse for our biggest distributors to increase their prices and make more profit on the back of the farmers who produce milk in deficit.

  1. Brief description: some servers of the Laiteries Réunies de Genève (LRG) got hacked. Datas were leaked and journalists revealed that while we already know that farmers sell milk on a deficit, making them dependent on our taxes for subsidies to keep their business afloat, distributors like Coop and Migros kept a large margin on their sales even during the inflation. Instead of a consumer friendly choice of making the prices of dairy products as low as possible, they chose to make money anyway and keep a margin as up as 50%.

  2. The same happens here in Portugal, Lactogal company keeps doing the same!
    My friend has a Diary Farm and the rules from the producers is to reduce the number of cows to their accepted quota. This happens so they can keep control of the price they purchase while keeping the Diary farm only working for them. Unfair and outrageous. I remember he told me that they pay less and less for 100 liters of milk (that is how they measure it).

  3. This does not only apply to milk, but to literally every Swiss produced item you find in Coop and MIGROS. It is yet another proof that protectionism on food in Switzerland is paid twice: once at the store, then when filing taxes. Yet, the average Swiss is very happy that the Swiss market is closed from the rest of Europe. Reality is that local producers are paid like shit and maintained by taxpayers, and the full profit is pocketed by 2 companies: Migros and Coop. Which are effectively a mafia, and anyone working in retail in Switzerland can tell you that they operate like a mafia, having complete power over the market. It’s either their price or you don’t sell.

    The solution would be very simple: Switzerland should enter the common European market for goods, ending all restrictions and idiotic taxes on meat, veggies, etc. Worried about local Swiss producers not surviving competition from the EU? Just keep or even increase subsidies! At least we would only pay ONCE, not TWICE, for our food. And I guarantee that as more retailers would enter the very profitable Swiss market, producers would see their margins increasing greatly. The day Coop and Migros fail, having to face some real competition, I’ll pop a nice bottle of champagne.

    If the average Swiss complains about rising food prices, they should look at themselves in the mirror to discover the culprit. It’s idiotic nationalistic price based on absolutely 0 economic foundation.
