Portuguese police are investigating footage showing a man riding an electric scooter against traffic across Lisbon’s 25 de Abril Bridge.
The incident was filmed at around 3.36am on Tuesday, August 18, by someone travelling on the bridge in a car. The footage was subsequently shared online and went viral.

A Public Security Police (PSP) source told Notícias ao Minuto that officers were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the video.
“We have requested the CCTV footage and will investigate with a view to identifying the individual,” the source said.
The video appears to show the scooter rider travelling along the bridge in the opposite direction to traffic.
Under Portugal’s Highway Code, electric scooters and motorised bicycles are generally treated in the same way as conventional bicycles, meaning users must obey traffic regulations.
Scooters should use cycle paths or shared-use lanes where available. In their absence, they must travel on the right-hand side of the road without disrupting traffic.
Users are prohibited from holding or using mobile phones while riding and can also be penalised for travelling under the influence of alcohol. Helmets are not compulsory, although scooters should not carry more than one person.
