The Bulgarian Government has confirmed that €20 million has been allocated towards preparations for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas.
Deputy Prime Minister Ivo Hristov announced the funding following a meeting with Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov on August 20, where preparations for next year’s contest were discussed.
According to Hristov, €15 million of the funding has been designated as the financial guarantee that must be deposited before the organisational process can begin, while the remaining €5 million will be used for immediate operational requirements.
Additional funding is expected to be included in Bulgaria’s 2027 State Budget, although the final figure has yet to be determined.
The funding will support a range of areas associated with hosting Eurovision, including infrastructure, transport, accommodation and the promotion of Bulgaria as a tourism destination.
Speaking after the meeting, Hristov said:
“We in the government see Eurovision as an opportunity to brand Bulgaria, because we have everything to offer – the full range of tourism services. We offer delicious food, mountains, ski resorts, the sea and cultural and historical tourism, but we are still not as recognizable in the tourism market as Italy and Greece.”
The Deputy Prime Minister also defended the decision to select Burgas as host city. He added:
“Burgas won with its strong motivation and proactive approach, which we were able to see during our discussions. Thanks to the team’s operational work, we have a chance to meet the deadlines for the public procurement procedures. We have a very exciting season ahead of us.”
Burgas was selected as the host city for Eurovision 2027 earlier this month following a competitive bidding process. Bulgaria will host the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time after Dara’s victory at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna.
Eurovision Song Contest 2027
Burgas will host the 71st Eurovision Song Contest after Dara’s victory in Vienna. The coastal city of Burgas is host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 on May 11, 13 and 15.
The song that Dara performed in Vienna was called “Bangaranga”. It was written and composed by Anne Judith Wik, Cristian Tarcea, Darina Yotova (Dara), Dimitris Kontopoulos. The result brings Bulgaria its first victory in the Eurovision Song Contest. DARA is also the first artist since Salvador Sobral in 2017 to win both the public and jury votes. Prior to this, the country’s best result was second place, achieved by Kristian Kostov in 2017. Bulgaria emerged as a dark horse winner, that climbed rapidly in the betting odds after the second rehearsal.
