GRIMES COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) – The land-grabbing company tied to SpaceX’s Terafab project has grown its footprint in Grimes County yet again, this time by more than 1,300 acres in just a few weeks.
An advanced search of Grimes Central Appraisal District (CAD) records conducted by KBTX shows WIT TECH LLC, the Elon Musk-connected company, now holds 20 parcels totaling 4,619.71 acres, up from the 3,311.66 acres KBTX confirmed in its last report on July 27.

KBTX spoke with the Grimes CAD employee who oversees the district’s website and GIS mapping system to better understand how they track WIT TECH LLC’s fast-growing list of properties.
He said the appraisal district is receiving new deed filings tied to WIT TECH LLC on a near-daily basis as the Terafab project moves forward, and staff works to update the public records by the end of each day.
Of the 20 parcels currently listed under WIT TECH LLC’s name, 10 show as active on the county’s GIS map, while 10 show as inactive. The CAD employee explained that inactive status doesn’t mean the land isn’t owned by the company; it means the parcel is in the process of being combined with adjacent tracts the company also owns, so the district can eventually display fewer, larger consolidated parcels instead of many small ones.
All 8 parcels previously reported by KBTX remain on the list, including the 3.83-acre parcel on Roese Road in Iola that contains the Navasota River pump station, the site KBTX visited in July, capable of pumping up to 11,000 gallons of water per minute from the river into the Gibbons Creek Reservoir.
One parcel stands out: Property R76980, located on the Gibbons Creek Reservoir, previously spanned 248.59 acres when KBTX first reported on it. It now spans 348.59 acres, a 100-acre jump, yet its assessed value has not changed at all, still listed at $2,153,330.
During an Aug. 5 public meeting, SpaceX representatives confirmed for the first time that the company itself, not just an “adjacent” third party, owns the pump station, and said it plans to use it to divert stormwater into the reservoir.
