Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for an end to the war with the United States, state news agency IRNA reported on Friday.
The war must eventually be brought to an end, Pezeshkian said at a medical conference, according to IRNA. “It is better to end it today, as we are in a position of strength and dignity,” he continued.
The United States has become hated around the world because of the war, said the Iranian president, who also serves as head of government.
In his speech, Pezeshkian categorically rejected capitulation.
“Under no circumstances will we bow to intimidation, there is no doubt whatsoever about that. Until our last breath, we will stand up to them and give them a devastating response,” he vowed.
At the end of February, Israel and the US launched their war against Iran, attacking the country from the air for almost 40 days.
Iranian forces responded with massive missile strikes against US targets in the Gulf region. An agreed ceasefire was repeatedly broken; most recently there have been sporadic mutual attacks. A diplomatic solution to end the war is not in sight.
