The largest of the awards is a 10 year contract with Watercare Services Limited to deliver water and wastewater services across Auckland’s northern regions, including North Shore, Waitematā and Rodney. The contract is valued at up to NZD 420 million (AUD 378 million) and commences on 1 October 2026, with an initial five year term and five one year extension options. Downer has provided water and wastewater services for Watercare since 2016.
The scope of work covers maintenance and operations across roughly 3,500 kilometres of watermains and 2,700 kilometres of sewerage networks, including proactive and reactive maintenance of reticulation networks, pump stations and other complex water assets. It also includes emergency water main repairs, pipeline rehabilitation and general reticulation maintenance, as well as minor construction works such as deep excavations, pump replacements and watermain renewals.
In Queensland, Downer has extended its partnership with Logan City Council for two more years, worth roughly AUD 320 million, continuing work under the Logan Water Infrastructure Program Alliance on planning, design, delivery and program management across water, sewerage and treatment assets. The extension takes effect from 1 July 2027.
A separate contract with Invercargill City Council in New Zealand covers reticulation operations and maintenance for water, wastewater and stormwater networks, with a value of up to NZD 120 million (around AUD 108 million) over as much as fifteen years. This includes an operations and maintenance component worth about NZD 45 million, with capital renewal works of up to NZD 75 million to be delivered at the council’s discretion.
Downer CEO Peter Tompkins said the contracts reflect sustained demand from utility asset owners for the company’s specialist capabilities, adding: “We are pleased to secure these important contracts, which reflect trust in Downer’s industry-leading expertise, and we anticipate further contract award announcements in coming months.”
