Ebara Corp.’s energy company, Ebara Elliott Energy, has signed a memorandum of understanding with South Korea’s Doosan Enerbility to jointly develop a new gas turbine-driven centrifugal compressor for the liquefied natural gas market, Ebara said on August 21.

The project combines Doosan’s large gas turbine technology with Ebara Elliott Energy’s compressor and other rotating machinery expertise. The companies plan to integrate and optimize the gas turbine and compressor from the initial design stage, targeting a high-efficiency and reliable solution for LNG plant operators.

Ebara Elliott Energy and Doosan have started technical verification work and joint marketing activities for LNG projects worldwide, with a market launch targeted for early 2028.

Doosan Enerbility is a major South Korean heavy industry manufacturer. Ebara is a Japanese industrial machinery maker.

Gas turbine-driven compressors are used in LNG facilities to support processes including gas compression. LNG projects typically require large rotating equipment packages, and equipment reliability and efficiency are important factors in plant design and operation.
