Joining or Staying Out of the EU Referendum Voting Intention (19-20 June 2022) – if a referendum on re-joining the European Union were to take place tomorrow, 53% say they would vote for the UK to join the EU and 47% say they would vote for the UK to stay out of the EU

  1. > When those who say they don’t know how they would vote in such a referendum are included, 48% of respondents would vote for the UK to join the EU, 43% would vote for the UK to join the EU, and 9% are unsure.

    Hmmmm….

  2. I’d be interested to know how many of those “stay out” votes think we’d be better off in but would vote out because of some misguided idea that to oppose Brexit would be somehow undemocratic.

  3. I’m over it at this point it’s done, just get rid of Boris and give us a reasonably competent government to make it work that’s all I want.

  4. That’s still not high enough, even you consider the huge negative impact its had. Why on earth do 47% still want this?

  5. It’s too late now. Brexit voters/ the tories have already double-fucked us for generations to come. The sooner they all foad, the better.

  6. I guess that it’s assuming that no propaganda from the brexit campaign will be published to trick people into staying out with promises that it’ll work out in the long run if they “stock with us”

  7. 53% – well, based on precedent, that’s an absolute stone-clad mandate that must be forced through without compromise! Get Rejoining Done!!!

  8. I have a funny feeling that a good chunk of that 53% are on the assumption that “rejoin” would be going back to exactly how things were prior to 2016. I’d suspect a fair chunk would.

In such a vote, it would be explained that our opt-outs and negotiated benefits would no longer exist, and we’d have to commit to joining the Euro. At which point, I would be amazed if support remained even close to that figure.

  9. Considering we seem to regularly see polls saying that more people are these days in favour of rejoining than in 2016, 47% is still a fucking lot that would be against it.

I really doubt that any referendum held soon would be a definite yes to rejoining.

  10. Alas I voted for Brexit, hate that I did now. Totally hoodwinked just to allow Boris to get the Prime Minister seat. As much as I hate to say that I was wrong. I was wrong. If anything now we need to stick together and help each other out. Climate Change, COVID, Cost of living crisis and the war in Ukraine just proves that if anything. We need to work together to get through this. I think currently the UK is in a dire awful place to live in. Especially with the current government’s ineptitude to help the people. We are the only species on the planet that could potentially help each other and make each others lives better and yet we don’t. The 1% and the corrupt others just want to make things harder and more money for themselves.
If the vote was to come up again I would vote to rejoin. Everyone I know also would do the same.

  11. If we wear a phony moustache and apply under a slightly different name we might get one of those neat introductory packages like you do with virgin media

  12. I voted remain, and would vote remain again, but I’m under no illusions thinking it would fix the deep structural problems ingrained in the UK which existed BEFORE Brexit. I’m really exasperated with people who think rejoining should be priority #1 over addressing inequality, austerity, healthcare, infrastructure, education, housing, etc. Being part of the EU *might* help with some of those, but it can’t solve them.

  13. We should be waiting at least ten years before another referendum.

It’s not like its 64/35 in favour of rejoining, it’s practically the same breakdown as the results of 2016 but the other way around.

  14. Nobody who voted to leave and still say they don’t regret it will never tell you why. I don’t see how this is a shock.

  15. This is going to sound cruel, but it needs at least 2 oldest generations gone before we see a true change in the percentages. Elderly do not change their minds.

  16. Who the fuck are these 47% ?

Pretty much everything from Brexit has been a failure? There’s been no clear and obvious wins vs very real problems ?

I genuinely despair at the idiocy of the public and corruptible politicians and media

  17. Personally I think the Brexit vote was just so that the wealthy in the UK could keep their wealth hidden as there were moves in the EU to make it extremely hard for them to cover up overseas assets.

So in short the population were duped into thinking that we’d be better off out because of more spending on the NHS etc.

  18. Well, we have already established that anything over 50% in a non-binding opinion poll is the iron-clad will of the people, and must be enacted by the government, AT ANY COST…

  19. that 53% could have rejoined immediately if they voted Lib Dem last election, but they didn’t so one can only presume it wasn’t a priority

  20. So no real change then, as the split is within the margin of error of these polls (typically +/- 3%), sure as shit the EU wouldn’t want anything to do with any application as long as the polls are that close.

  21. How about we only join EU for the months we are struggling economically then leave and rejoin again few months later . UK could be economically gender fluid

  22. Nah. The UK won’t rejoin the EU until the brexit crowd feels the economic pain of leaving

Things have to get much worse before brexit dies

  23. Its too late.
We’re in this shit so those who voted to leave will suffer with the rest of us who knew this would happen.

  24. If there was a referendum to re join I’d want it to be 60% in favour, like it should have been for leaving!
