Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport tied the record high for Aug. 22 when the temperature reached 105 degrees at 4:52 p.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. The temperature matched the record set in 1980 and 2010.
Saturday’s high was forecasted to reach 107 degrees. The heat index, or “feels like” temperature, was expected to reach closer to 109 degrees.
The Dallas-Fort Worth region also remains under an elevated wildfire threat, as hot and dry conditions continue. A 100-acre wildfire began Friday around noon near Gainesville in Montague County, prompting initial evacuations that were later canceled.
The weather service encourages practicing heat safety and avoiding any activities that could cause a wildfire to start, such as tossing lit cigarettes, dragging tow chains on the ground or driving over tall grass.
Several D-FW counties are also under a burn ban, including Dallas and Tarrant counties.
