Finland is preparing its next air defense package, which will consist of some of Ukraine’s most critical needs, reported President of the country Alexander Stubb.
“Today we have three main outcomes. The first concerns air defense: we are preparing the next assistance package, which essentially covers some of Ukraine’s most critical needs,” Stubb said at the Nordic-Baltic Eight summit in Kyiv on Sunday.
In addition, the President of Finland announced “good news” regarding energy support for Ukraine.
“And finally, thirdly, we all know that this is primarily about defense, and here I am very pleased to have brought seven Finnish defense industry companies with me, which have already been able to begin closer cooperation with their Ukrainian partners,” he added.
According to Stubb, a significant portion of the American administration’s attention is currently focused on Iran and finding a solution regarding that country. At the same time, according to him, U.S. President’s Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner continue to engage with Ukraine and the Ukrainian authorities.
“In my view, the initiative right now does not belong to Ukraine; it depends largely on Russia. I think the Ukrainians are looking for pragmatic solutions in negotiations, but it is the Russians who are not providing concrete results,” Stubb said.
He noted that the American side will not visit Moscow or Kyiv until it sees an opportunity for substantive progress in the negotiation process. At the same time, he reported that he will pass his own assessment and conclusions to Washington after spending two days in Kyiv.
“Yes, of course, I will send [conclusions – IF-U], but I never want to exaggerate my role in this. We are small states; we provide information and hopefully will eventually find a solution, but the problem is not Ukraine, the problem is Russia,” Stubb emphasized.
