my landlord installed this, any idea what it is?

  1. Looks like one of those locks that can be opened with a code.
I’ve seen it used for Airbnb’s to share the key without meeting

  2. Its a combination lock key safe. With this a key can be handed off to contractors for example without the landlord having to meet them.

  3. Few days ago there was a guy asking what the switches in his new apartment do, now someone is asking about a lock that their landlord installed.

I really don’t get this trend where people instantly come to Reddit when they could resolve something by having a small interaction with someone. Just talk to your fellow human beings.

  4. It’s a keybox. Poke it a little and you’ll uncover some buttons to press to open the box with a PIN code. Inside is a key to some door on your floor.

This is common for AirBnB or when you have contractors coming to your house in your absence. Also seen it on “cabanes” in the woods that you can rent.

  5. It looks like a lock box to store keys in. Probably for contractors or for tours for prospective tenants.

  6. a security risk: they install a 100 CHF Kaba front door key and then lock the key in a 20 CHF cheapo key-box. Might as well tape the key under the doormat

  7. Often used at Airbnb apartments to deposit the key, then with a code you can open that and take out the key. Is very practical.

  8. It’s a fucking lockbox. This sub is quite possibly the most bullshit unintelligent posting group of redditors. Shaking my fucking head.

  9. Yes! We have one (the tenant did however)! It is to safely store keys of the apartment 🙂
Our tenants does so when he goes running. Also, you won’t forget keys around or lose them either!

  10. Can’t wait for the next post. “I have two buttons above the toilet, they both seem to trigger some kind of mechanism releasing water into the bowl. Do you know what they are for?”

  11. We use it when you have only 1 key and more than 1 company is working on a flat/house, and half the time the code is this year, last year or again last year, so code is probably 2022, 2021 or 2020…
