At its peak, the Roman Empire spanned three continents and completely encompassed the Mediterranean Sea. It’s no surprise that its ruins can be found as far away as Pula, Croatia.

As photographer Deanna McIntyre states, the Pula Arena was “constructed between 27 B.C. and 68 A.D. during the reigns of Emperors Augustus and Vespasian and could hold up to 23,000 spectators, [and is] now used as a cultural venue for events such as the Pula Film Festival and concerts.”
