Lidl Belgium has launched Scan&Go, a new digital service that allows customers to scan their groceries while shopping and pay directly at self-checkouts for a quicker experience.

Scan&Go is integrated directly into the Lidl Plus app, allows customers to pack their groceries as they pick them up and avoid traditional checkout hassles.

To support the launch, Lidl Belgium is offering a one-time 5% discount on customers’ first Scan&Go purchase.

European Rollout

The Scan&Go service has already been implemented in Lidl stores in Germany, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.

Following positive feedback of the previous rollouts in Luxembourg, Lidl is scaling the service in Belgium.

The Belgian rollout commenced with Lidl stores in Melle and Destelbergen, and will expand to 30 more stores that already feature self-checkout tills by the end of this year, the retailer stated.

The next designated stores are located in Evere and Roeselare, the retailer added.

Scan&Go Functionality

The Scan&Go initiative allows customers to shop at their own pace while having a direct visibility over their budget and available promotions.

Kim Geirnaert, spokesperson for Lidl Belgium, said, “Scan&Go is an additional option within our existing range. Every time they go grocery shopping, customers choose for themselves how they want to shop: via the traditional checkout, self-checkout, or with their smartphone via Scan&Go in the Lidl Plus app. With this, we are responding to the consumer’s desire for extra flexibility.”

Lidl has deployed customer support staff to assist with questions to ensure a seamless introduction of the service.

For security, automatic age checks will be implemented at checkouts for age-restricted items, alongside random spot-checks to ensure proper use of the service.
