Donald Trump and Marco Rubio are starving the Cuban people in a brutal attempt to force them into submission and accept an American-designed form of government.
I submit that this is immoral, illegal and inhumane.
Yet I see and hear nothing about this on any of the South Florida TV stations, many of which are staffed by people who have relatives in Cuba enduring these severe hardships.
Do you suppose that these Cuban Americans are more supportive of Trump and Rubio than they are of their own relatives and countrymen? And doesn’t that envision the eventual return of a Batista-style government, which begat the 60-plus-year Castro nightmare — or worse, a Trump government of oligarchs and faux democracy?
I say we let the Cubans who are in Cuba decide what form of government they want — not the make-believe caudillos in Miami and Washington.

Congress: Save Head Start
Congress must call on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to rescind Robert F. Kennedy’s Jr.’s proposed rules attacking Head Start.
RFK Jr. repeatedly undermines the well-being of our nation’s children, families and moms — the population his agency is tasked with serving. Instead of helping our families, he’s attacking the nation’s most important social and educational program for children, families and communities by proposing to eliminate program standards and rolling back critical regulatory rules.
The changes would significantly weaken Head Start, diminishing its ability to provide quality early learning, health services, family engagement services and parent leadership opportunities that have boosted families for decades. These changes threaten to increase classroom sizes, reduce teaching standards and gut federal requirements supporting children with disabilities.
For 60 years, Head Start has delivered childcare and comprehensive services to 40 million children and counting by providing high-quality early education for our littlest learners, so parents can work and provide support, while also facilitating career opportunities for millions of childcare workers.
As a concerned community member and passionate advocate for children and families, I urge Congress to protect Head Start. Changes that can diminish and dismantle Head Start during a worsening national childcare crisis are unconscionable and will harm hundreds and thousands of children and families.

Communism never works
To those who advocate for or support a communist, fascist or national socialist agenda — take your pick — please take note.
Communism didn’t work in the former Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). Communism doesn’t work in Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea and even China today (history will validate that fact).
Communism was relegated to the ash heap of history in all of the once Soviet-occupied Eastern European countries after the collapse of the USSR. Fascism didn’t work too well in Benito Mussolini’s Italy. National Socialism failed miserably in Adolf Hitler’s National Socialist (Nazi) Germany.
Those who advocate for and support communism, fascism and national socialism might do well to remember that millions fled those countries governed by the aforementioned ideologies for America, the good, ol’ USA. Few if any chose to do the opposite.

Your latest editorial is very short on fact (“The start of a revolution, or more of the same?” Aug. 23) on the top of the Democratic ticket in Florida.
Florida is in good fiscal shape. The two Democrats you praised (Angie Nixon and David Jolly) are evil to the state.
Try to be fair and state facts, not conjecture.

Get hip to the Cats
It’s been several days. Once again, no mention of the Florida Panthers in the sports section.
The ongoing lack of coverage of our two-time Stanley Cup champions is inexcusable. All other local sports teams (Dolphins, Hurricanes, Marlins and Heat) get continuous coverage. Please stop showing your bias against the Panthers.
Season tickets have again sold out, and fans would appreciate regular daily coverage.
