The Alliance is preparing its top military gathering after the Ankara summit, with decisions on deterrence, technology, and Ukraine expected to draw attention.
On 18–19 September 2026, Copenhagen will host a meeting of the NATO Military Committee at the level of chiefs of defence. Details of the upcoming meeting were released by the Alliance’s press service.
The meeting will be chaired by Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone. It will also be attended by Supreme Allied Commander Europe General Alexus Grynkewich and Supreme Allied Commander Transformation Admiral Pierre Vandier.
Support for Ukraine Among the Topics of the NATO Meeting
Together, NATO’s senior military leadership will consider the next steps following the Ankara Summit, including further strengthening the Alliance’s collective deterrence and defence, innovation and technology, as well as support for Ukraine

The NATO Military Committee is the Alliance’s highest military authority. It addresses matters related to operations, missions, exercises, defence capabilities, and other areas of military activity.
The Committee prepares coordinated military recommendations for the North Atlantic Council on responding to global security challenges. Its day-to-day work at NATO Headquarters in Brussels is carried out by military representatives of Allied countries.
How the Alliance’s Military Committee Works
Meetings of chiefs of defence are usually held twice a year in Brussels. In addition, each year one NATO member state hosts a Military Committee Conference attended by representatives of all 32 Alliance countries.
When necessary, NATO may also convene extraordinary meetings to promptly consider pressing issues of collective defence and security.
