Pacific Gas & Electric Co. work on an underground natural gas facility in Sonoma is expected to wrap by the end of the week, a company official said Tuesday, Aug. 25.
The utility notified the city Monday the work would take place through the night into Tuesday along Second Street West between West Napa and West Spain streets.
PG&E spokesperson Megan McFarland confirmed operations began Monday and are expected to be completed by the end of the week.
Road closures are in place near Second Street West while this work is completed. Crews will work overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., to minimize disruptions for the public, McFarland said.
There are no public safety concerns associated with the project, McFarland said, and customers are not expected to experience any disruption to gas service. McFarland explained the company is relocating a portion of the underground gas line away from a storm drain as a proactive measure to maintain long-term safety in the gas system.
PG&E is coordinating with the City of Sonoma, Caltrans and Sonoma County to ensure the integrity of the gas system and to address issues with equipment.
Drivers are advised to avoid the area and follow directions from crews and traffic signs nearby.
