Slovak authorities derailed a planned arson
attack on an unmanned systems manufacturing plant in eastern Slovakia,
police officials said Aug. 25.
The attack was uncovered through information from the Slovak
Information Service and military intelligence. Three foreign nationals were
detained on suspicion of preparing the sabotage operation. Two were arrested in
Slovakia, while a third was detained in Germany under a European arrest
warrant.
Police seized a large quantity of an incendiary mixture
during the operation. Preliminary expert findings indicate that it consisted of
gasoline and polystyrene. Authorities said such a mixture is commonly used to
make napalm.
Police also found tools, smartphones, a dedicated camera,
and a hand-drawn plan of the facility.
For security reasons, police did not disclose the name of
the facility targeted in the alleged arson plot or its exact location.
On Aug. 24, The Telegraph reported, citing Western
intelligence sources, that the Kremlin was recruiting members of criminal
groups to attack European defense manufacturers and test NATO’s readiness to
respond to Russian aggression.
The Telegraph also reported that Latvian authorities had
detained three Latvian citizens suspected of setting fire to a building
belonging to Milrem Robotics, a drone manufacturer, in neighboring Estonia on
the night of Aug. 15. The company is one of two foreign suppliers of ground
robotic systems to Ukraine.
