RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) – President Donald Trump has endorsed Gov. Larry Rhoden for reelection, giving the incumbent a high-profile boost ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
Trump announced the endorsement Thursday on Truth Social, praising Rhoden’s record and leadership.
Rhoden thanked Trump for his support, saying he looks forward to continuing to work with the administration.
The endorsement highlights Rhoden’s background as a fourth-generation South Dakotan, businessman, rancher, former state legislator and governor. Trump’s campaign also pointed to Rhoden’s support for agriculture, economic growth, energy development, law enforcement, veterans and Second Amendment rights.
Rhoden became governor in 2025 after serving as lieutenant governor and succeeding Gov. Kristi Noem when she joined Trump’s administration as U.S. secretary of Homeland Security.
South Dakota voters will choose a governor in the Nov. 3, 2026, general election.
