The meeting focused on winter risks and disrupted trade, but its most symbolic moment came when Moldova honored Ukraine’s president.

During a visit to Chișinău, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Moldovan President Maia Sandu. The sides discussed the security situation, energy cooperation, transport logistics, and joint infrastructure projects. One of the main topics was the consequences of Russian attacks against Ukraine. Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that border crossing points on the Ukrainian-Moldovan border had also been affected by the strikes. Shelling of Ukraine’s port infrastructure has also increased the need for alternative transport routes through Moldova.

Logistics and Energy Security of Ukraine and Moldova

During the conversation, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Maia Sandu also focused on preparing the energy systems of both countries for the winter period. Ukraine and Moldova will coordinate their actions to strengthen the resilience of energy infrastructure and enhance energy security.

In addition, the leaders discussed protecting the rights of national minorities, cooperation in cybersecurity, countering disinformation, and developing strategic communications.

European Integration of Ukraine and Moldova

Particular attention during the talks was given to both countries’ path toward the European Union. The President of Ukraine stressed the need to open all negotiating clusters as soon as possible and continue the joint European integration of Ukraine and Moldova.

At the end of the meeting, Maia Sandu presented Volodymyr Zelenskyy with the Order of the Republic, Moldova’s highest state award.

The President of Ukraine arrived in Chișinău to take part in celebrations marking Moldova’s Independence Day.
