There’s only so much UK authorities can do, because the people smugglers aren’t based in the UK – they’re based in France. Tackling these people smuggling gangs is therefore mostly down to the French.
But ultimately, the French will never be interested in actually eliminating these smuggling gangs because they’re doing the French a favour by smuggling migrants _out_ of the country.
