Slovak prosecutors said three men detained
on Aug. 25 had planned to set fire to a plant operated by Ukrainian UAV maker
Skyeton, Reuters reported
on Aug. 27.
A little-known group “Global Citizens Against War 1984” claimed
responsibility for the failed attack.
Skyeton produces drones for civilian and military use in
Ukraine and other countries. Prosecutors said the company’s plant in Slovakia
was the intended target.
“The Russians regularly attempt to attack
both our production facilities in Ukraine and our reputation,” the company said
in a statement sent to Reuters.
“The recent attempted attack
on our facility in Slovakia is further proof that Ukrainian defense manufacturers have become a
real thorn in their side.”
Meanwhile, German law enforcement officials told Reuters
that a 26-year-old Latvian citizen had been detained in Hamburg on suspicion of
involvement in the case. Extradition proceedings are underway.
On Aug. 25, Slovak police said they had thwarted a
planned arson attack on a drone systems manufacturing plant in the eastern part
of the country. Two suspects were detained in Slovakia and another in Germany
under a European arrest warrant.
During the operation, police seized a large quantity of an
incendiary mixture. Preliminary expert analysis indicated that it consisted of
gasoline and polystyrene. Police said such a mixture is commonly used to make
napalm. Investigators also found tools, smartphones, a camera, and a hand-drawn
plan of the plant.
