Berlin mosque flies rainbow flag in support of LGBTQ community

  1. I have to be honest, this really surprised me. I just hope the imam and the other good people responsible won’t get into hot water with the larger Muslim community.

  2. It’s the first mosque to fly a rainbow flag and show official support of and solidarity with LGBTQ people. They say they hope others will follow suit, I doubt it. But it’s a step into the right direction. “Love is halal” is a beautiful message.

  3. More European than the right-wingers in our countries railing against ”liberasts destroying Latvia and families”.

  4. Last week there was a post on here about Christians turning up to a Pride march and apologising and hugging the marchers for past transgressions of the church.

I said it was a wonderful sign and a few responses said it meant nothing unless they [Christians] all do it.

I said all this has to start somewhere and now I see this. I’m not LGBTQ so can’t speak for the community but I do take these little things as a sign of hope.

  5. I never praise Islam, or any of the Abrahamic religions for that matter.
But I respect this. Lets hope more follow in the years to come.

  6. People need to understand that the Ibn Rushd-Goethe Mosque is one of a kind.
It’s the only one in Germany that is liberal and is essentially the project of Seyran Ates.

Denouncing the mosque is probably one of the few issues Sunnis and Shiites can agree on.

The authority of the mosque ends at its door.
