Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly massively used in various types of industries, including journalism. Where AI is used to conduct research, process information, to the preparation of content.
As part of IBM Indonesia Builders Day 2026, IBM brought together journalists from a number of leading media in Indonesia in a free Agentic AI Coaching Clinic that provides hands-on experience using IBM Bob.
During the training, the IBM Indonesia team demonstrated how Agentic AI can accelerate research, simplify the content creation process, and increase the productivity of the editorial room, but still in accordance with the writing rules of each media.
After that, IBM Bob can help draft news based on the information and context provided. As well as asking AI to upload the draft news in real-time without having to log in to the editorial Content Management System (CSM).
However, IBM emphasized that the role of journalists remains a key element in the editorial process. Al is expected to serve as an aid to increase efficiency and productivity. While the fact-checking process, determining the point of view, to the editorial decision remains in human hands.
This has also been said by Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Nezar Patria, who emphasized that AI does not have verification instincts because the technology only works if it is ordered.
According to him, without human control, AI cannot determine whether information is authentic or just a simulation. The use of AI in the media industry must also be placed as a production aid, not an editorial decision maker.
“AI will not verify if it is not asked. It is this discipline of verification that distinguishes professional journalism from automated content,” said Nezar.
This coaching clinic reflects IBM’s commitment to encouraging the development of digital talent and helping individuals build skills relevant to the future of the workforce.
