Rome child in coma after being hit by truck while trying to catch school bus

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Rome police are investigating after a child was badly injured by a truck while he was reportedly trying to catch a school bus last Friday.

The 7-year-old was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Scottish Rite Hospital, where he is in a medically induced coma, according to a GoFundMe set up to help his family.

Around 7:10 a.m. Friday, Rome police said officers and paramedics responded to Chateau Drive after a Ford F-150 hit a child.

Police said the truck was traveling north on Chateau Drive when the child entered the roadway near the entrance of an apartment complex on 48 Chateau Drive, the address for the Prosperity at The Arbors complex.

The boy was trying to catch a school bus at the time, according to the GoFundMe, which says he’ll need surgery.

Investigators said the road was wet from earlier storms, and there were no signs the driver was impaired or speeding.
