Pokémon’s Social Media “Temporarily Compromised”, Promotes Cryptocurrency

Ahead of the Pokémon World Championships, it seems the official Pokémon account on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) has been hacked.

Fortunately, everything is now back to normal, with The Pokémon Company issuing a statement acknowledging the official account had been “temporarily compromised” for about half an hour. During this time, followers may have seen posts “promoting a cryptocurrency”.

Here’s the official statement via Kotaku:

The @Pokemon handle on X was temporarily compromised earlier for ~30 minutes.

We’re aware that our X account was accessed without authorization and used to publish posts promoting a cryptocurrency.

Those posts were not created or approved by Pokémon and have been removed. We’re sorry for the confusion and appreciate your patience.

The post shared during this time frame claimed Pokémon was celebrating its anniversary in a “whole new way” with the “official Pokémon memecoin”. Here’s a look:
