Owners of older Hardware 3 (HW3/AI3) vehicles in Australia and New Zealand have been waiting patiently for news regarding Full Self-Driving v14 Lite. Now, Tesla has officially confirmed that localized software development is actively underway for right-hand-drive markets across Oceania.
The confirmation arrived via direct email updates sent to regional vehicle owners, one of whom (thanks, @sam_mz20) shared the message on X. In the email sent by Tesla Motors Australia, the team addressed local rollout timelines directly:
“We’re currently rolling out FSD (Supervised) v14 Lite to users in North America and South Korea, with active development underway for Australia and New Zealand. This represents meaningful progress toward bringing the FSD (Supervised) feature to Hardware 3 vehicles; something we remain committed and dedicated to delivering.”

Bridging the Hardware 3 Capability Gap
FSD v14 Lite serves as a distilled, compressed build of the primary end-to-end neural network branch available on newer Hardware 4 (HW4/AI4) vehicles. Older HW3 computers only have about 15% of the memory bandwidth available on current AI4 computers, preventing them from running the uncompressed model.
With Tesla previously confirming that HW3 vehicles won’t support unsupervised autonomy (or the upcoming FSD v15 update, for that matter), v14 Lite is the end of the line for them. It’s designed to act as a bridge while owners await promised upgrades to newer hardware, like the AI4+ (or AI4.5) FSD computer Tesla announced earlier this year. Tired of Tesla dragging its feet, one HW3 owner and tinkerer recently even did a DIY upgrade to HW4 to show it was possible.
The development journey for v14 Lite has moved quickly over the summer. FSD v14 Lite originally debuted in June, but the rollout went cold after hitting select early access testers. In July, Tesla rolled out an unexpected update for FSD v14 Lite, after which a wider rollout kicked off. That paved the way for FSD v14 Lite to roll out publicly to North American owners alongside an international rollout in South Korea.
Careful Validation for Right-Hand Drive Roads
Taking extra time to validate and optimize software for Australia and New Zealand makes complete sense. Engineers must adapt navigation models to handle left-hand traffic, unique road markings, and multi-lane roundabouts.

Early fleet reports indicate that some HW3 FSD computers are overheating on v14 Lite due to the intense processing load demanded by the compressed neural network. Validating not just the model’s driving safety but also operating efficiency before pushing code across the Southern Hemisphere prevents processor throttling during hot summer drives.
As regional testing advances, Australian and Kiwi HW3 owners can expect localized v14 Lite builds to land once safety benchmarks clear. European owners, meanwhile, are still waiting for official word from Tesla on when the latest FSD update for HW3 vehicles could make its way to the bloc.
