Ukrainian Defense Minister Yevhen Khmara and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapatiy discussed the priority needs of the Defense Forces and the rapid delivery of necessary equipment during a meeting with Latvian Defense Minister Raivis Melnis.
According to Ukrinform, this was reported by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
It is noted that during the meeting, the Ukrainian side outlined the Defense Forces’ priority needs, specifically mentioning ground-based robotic systems, fiber-optic drones, “middle strike” capabilities, and air defense systems.
As Khmara emphasized, it is important for Ukraine that the necessary equipment be delivered as quickly as possible.
As noted by the Ministry of Defense, Latvia will continue to provide security support to Ukraine at a level of at least 0.25% of GDP per year.
In addition, Ukraine is counting on Latvia to take the lead in working with other countries and through international forums to secure additional assistance for Ukrainian soldiers.
The parties also discussed other areas of support for Ukraine, including the rehabilitation of military personnel, training, and strengthening cyber capabilities.
Separately, the meeting focused on developing a strong and mutually beneficial partnership between Ukraine and Latvia.
“For its part, Ukraine is ready to share with Latvia its experience in countering modern threats. This includes, in particular, unique expertise in conducting multi-domain operations, organizing territorial defense, and developing modern fortifications,” the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense noted, expressing gratitude to Latvia for its important support and willingness to build a strong, mutually beneficial partnership.
As reported by Ukrinform, Latvia will expand its assistance to the Ukrainian military and accept an additional 200 wounded defenders for rehabilitation.
