MONDAY

Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization holds its annual summit in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan. Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian are expected to attend the summit in the landlocked Central Asian country, amid threats by U.S. President Donald Trump to impose “economic D-Day” sanctions aimed at isolating Iran. After travelling to Bishkek, Xi will proceed to Egypt for a state visit through Thursday, as the two countries celebrate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties.

Semicon Taiwan

Semicon Taiwan 2026 kicks off in Taipei. The three-day gathering will feature appearances from executives from Google, Microsoft, Nvidia and more. Key themes this year include AI, data centers and the latest in advanced chip-packaging technologies.

Super Garuda Shield

The opening ceremony for the annual 12-day U.S.-Indonesian military exercise Super Garuda Shield will be held in Bandung, the capital of West Java province. The exercise marks one of the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. While the drills aim to demonstrate unity and promote stability in areas such as the South China Sea, Indonesia announced last week that it would expand defense cooperation with China.

Shein listing

Chinese fast fashion retailer Shein begins trading on the Hong Kong Exchange, after failed attempts to go public in New York and London. The purveyor of inexpensive but trendy clothing was valued at $27 billion in its initial public offering, far below its peak of about $100 billion a few years ago.

Vietnam launches Independence Day infrastructure projects

Localities across Vietnam will launch dozens of infrastructure projects to mark Independence Day. Ho Chi Minh City, the biggest city, will kick off 16 projects, headlined by a metro line to the new international airport, Long Thanh.

Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong is due to appear in court for what is scheduled as a plea and sentencing hearing. He is expected to plead guilty to a charge of colluding with foreign forces, according to local media, in what would mark his second conviction under the National Security Law that China imposed on the city in 2020.

The Thai government and private sector will host The Bangkok Business Summit 2026: Reinvent Thailand, Resilient ASEAN.
